Just another option that can be primary or secondary (with fn) per app. The additional API options would be great, but I don't see the Touch Bar as a negative so far. Overall, this aspect doesn't matter much to me since the function keys only tied into maybe 5% of what I use Keyboard Maestro for. So I can just add those apps as needed and let the Touch Bar magic be the default in apps where that's more useful. I use the function keys to trigger application-specific Keyboard Maestro macros (like F1 / F2 to navigate tabs in Firefox). I don't see a way to set that globally so far, though I wouldn't be surprised if there's some way through the terminal.īut having it application-specific works better for me anyway. It still recognizes additional modifier keys, either way. No, but under System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts, a new "Function Keys" option appears at the bottom of the list where you can specify apps in which the Touch Bar will show function keys by default (without pressing the fn key). keys as standard function keys" option remain in Touch Bar Macs, allowing each such function key to be used with modifier keys to trigger various Keyboard Maestro macros? The most important instructions from these totenpässe are those regarding Lethe, the river of forgetfulness. Charon and Psyche, John Roddam Spencer Stanhope. We know most of these details from totenpässe, the so-called passports of the dead, thin gold foil pieces found in the mouths of skeletons, inscribed with details to navigate the other realm. The geography of the Greek Underworld is fascinating, and its knowledge was fundamental to Antiquity’s mystery religions. But no matter what they had seen, pilgrims couldn’t reveal it to anyone, or fearful Hades, the lord of the Underworld, would take their lives in retaliation. It was here that the dead would come to speak, as shadows fluttering over the dimly-lit stone walls. We know little about the rituals that would allow the living to contact their dead at the Necromanteion: first, they would follow a special diet that probably included hallucinogens they would then descend through underground corridors and cross three gates that replicated the ones in Hades and that took them to the dark chamber, the most secret place of all. #Hades charon seriesOdysseus visited it to contact the soul of the blind prophet Tiresias for advice on his journey, but he also suffered a series of terrifying visions involving torrents of blood, chilling screams and armies of wounded warriors. Since the river was considered a portal to Hades, its banks were the ideal location for the Necromanteion, the most important Oracle of the Dead in Ancient Greece. The Acheron, or the river of woe, is, in fact, a real river in the Epirus region of northwestern Greece, one that flows through dark gorges and goes underground in several places, which may explain its long association with liminality. The unfortunate souls who didn’t have a coin (because their bodies hadn’t received a proper burial) were condemned to wander along the banks of the Cocytus, the river of lamentation, for all eternity. Roman skull with an obol in the mouth, by Falconaumanni (own work) via Wikimedia Commons.Īlthough the messenger-god Hermes escorted the dead to the river Acheron, once they reached it they were at the mercy of Charon’s moods. But when we think of him now, we imagine a hooded, silent figure in a scene that seems taken from Arnold Böcklin’s most intriguing painting, The Isle of the Dead Charon’s role as a psychopomp, a guide for souls in the afterlife, has determined his assimilation with the image of the Grim Reaper, the personification of Death. In a fresco in the Sistine Chapel, Michaelangelo portrays him as a corpulent creature, more beastly than human. Centuries later, Dante, drawing from Virgil’s work, presents him as a surly old man who refuses to take people on his boat. The Roman poet Virgil describes him as ‘a sordid god’ with ‘uncombed, unclean’ beard, and eyes ‘like hollow furnaces on fire’ Seneca mentions his ‘sunken cheeks’. Attic funerary vases of the fifth century B.C. Inspite of his charming epithet, Charon was a fearful sight for those who found themselves alone in an unknown realm. Gustave Dore, illustrating Canto III of Dante’s Inferno, written circa 1310. His name was Charon, he of the keen gaze. It was a perilous journey, and there was only one guide to take the recently departed to their final destination. In Ancient Greece, this was the realm of Hades, separated from the land of the living by five rivers. The coins had a purpose: to allow the dead to pay for their passage to the Otherworld. It has become a part of our collective subconscious, possibly because the ritual appeared in different traditions, and it survived, although marginally, until as recently as the 20th century. The image of metal glinting over lifeless lips still makes us shiver. There was a time when the living covered the mouths of their dead with a single coin before their final goodbye. These are multi-colored squares, and once again, only one of them is possible to complete. Once you solve the one you can beat, go to the next set of three. In this section, there are three black and white square puzzles, but only one of them is possible to complete. So if one of them are too hard for you, just purposefully fail it to get a new puzzle of that same type.Īnother thing that I started doing with the tetris puzzle was counting the amount of squares that the tetris designs filled up, and then just looking for that number of squares I could section off.Īfter you solve all 4 of those puzzles, run across the bridge to the next set of puzzles. If you fail any of these puzzles, you must go back and re-solve the last puzzle you did. Any color line can go through the black dots. The orange line must go through the orange dots, and the blue line must go through the blue dots. The color of line that that you control will be blue, and the color line you don't control will be orange (that may be backwards. The last puzzle I mentioned, the symmetry puzzle with multicolored dots, means that there will be three different colored dots on the symmetry puzzle. There will be a simple maze, a tetris with suns puzzle, a black and white squares puzzle, and a symmetry puzzle with multicolored dots. The puzzles rotate between these 4 locations. Only one puzzle will be lit up at a time, and the order is always random, so be quick about checking all 4 puzzles to know which one you can solve. Two puzzles are on the top part, and two are on the bottom. Here there are four puzzles spread out around a pillar. Once you are done with the maze (which shouldn't take too long) run to the next section. I took a picture of the maze with my phone before I solved it so I would remember the location of those two puzzles. THE WITNESS ACHIEVEMENTS FULL SIZEIn the full size maze, these two dots are the locations of two triangle puzzles that you must solve. In a little bit you will need to walk a full size version of this same maze, so pay attention not only to the solution of the maze but also to where the two dots are in the maze. When you are doing these, make sure to hold down the button that speeds up your cursor (I believe it is LT) and push RB after you solve the puzzle to quickly switch to the next puzzle.Īfter this, run to the next puzzle which is a maze. The first two are mazes and the last one is black and white squares. That is accomplished by moving the cursor to the far left instead of going up, Going up will stop the record.Īs soon as you start the record, run up to the wall and solve the first three puzzles. Once you are in the cave, go to the very back and start the record. THE WITNESS ACHIEVEMENTS HOW TOThe bottom part of this solution is telling everyone how to get to the challenge room. The top part of this solution is all about beating the challenge and any hints that I can give, as well as a glitch that was recommended by several in the comments (Thanks to Melchett and Awe5ome). However, you do not need to have beaten all of the random puzzles spread out across the island. I believe that this achievement can only be obtained after you beat the main story line and have turned on all of the lasers. ON OFF SWITCH POWER SUPPLY PCAgain, if you’d like guidance on what hardware requires a power supply connection or have any questions about what goes where, check out this introduction to PC building. If it does, great! You’ll then want to power down the system and begin reconnecting the power cables to each piece of hardware, then testing until you find the hardware that is causing the problem. Once everything has been unplugged from the PSU, reseat the motherboard and CPU power cables, plug in your PC, and see if your system turns on, as indicated by fans spinning and the lights on your hardware illuminating. This includes the 24 pin and the CPU power cables connected to your motherboard, additional power cables running to any PCIe devices like your GPU, and SATA and Molex power connectors connected to storage devices and other accessories.įor a deeper dive on power supply connections, take a look at everything you need to know about power supplies. If that didn’t work, it’s time to unplug every power cable that is connected to your components. After ensuring nothing is loose on either side, see if your PC powers on. If you have a modular PSU (a power supply where you choose the cables you want to use), also be sure to double-check that the cables are properly seated on the PSU side as well. This process will vary depending on your case, so follow any appropriate documentation and instructions to get access to the inside of your PC.Īfter getting your case open, you’ll want to check all the connections from your power supply to the components in your PC, see if any are loose, and then reseat them if they are. If that doesn’t work, unplug your computer from the wall, and open your case to get access to your internal components. USB devices or display connections cables can occasionally cause power issues, and if your PC boots without any plugged in, plug each one separately and test until you’ve found the problematic peripheral, and either try and boot without it or test with a replacement. Also, be sure to disconnect any external peripherals, like keyboards, mice or external hard drives, and monitor cables that are plugged into your computer. Start by unplugging the cable that runs from your PC’s power supply to the outlet before doing anything else inside your computer. If you are working with a prebuilt system, keep in mind that opening your PC can violate your warranty, and it might be a good idea to contact your system manufacturer for advice before proceeding. The next step is to start checking inside your build to ensure that there are no loose or malfunctioning cables. ON OFF SWITCH POWER SUPPLY FREEThis will not only inform you about what to expect before you begin the diagnostic process, but every issue might not apply to you, so feel free to start with the step that seems most appropriate. Feel free to use this PC building guide as a reference for any questions you have regarding how PC hardware is put together, or questions about specific components.Īlso, we recommend reading ahead to find the situation that most closely matches your own. Throughout the diagnostic process, we will be talking in detail about various PC hardware. If your PC is turning on but nothing is displayed on your screen, or if you are stuck in the BIOS settings and unable to access your operating system, you can check out this troubleshooting guide on 'Why Can't I Boot into Windows?' For the sake of clarity, we’re assuming that either your system isn't reacting at all when the power button on your case is pressed, or that it’s turning on for a second or so then shutting down again. “My PC won’t turn on” can mean quite a few different things. Whether you’re building a PC that has never successfully turned on, or are trying to fix a new issue for one that was previously operating correctly, these diagnostic solutions should be equally helpful. Instead, we’re covering steps you can take to identify the problem and fix it. Modern PCs are complex machines, so it might not be immediately obvious where the problem originates.īecause of the variety of possible hardware configurations, it isn't possible to diagnose every possible issue. When your PC won’t turn on, it can be hard to know where to start fixing it. That said make sure that your lone wolf also rolled decently. Thus having a lone wolf that carries a chunk of the burden helps a lot in my experience. I don't like determined because with high resolve you can kill an enemy early and gain the confident morale 95% of the time, making this perk not as good in the late game.Īs you see I focus a lot on the late game because imo that's where the lone wolf run becomes difficult due to the limitated roster: You can't just have archers you swap out for the monolith or the kraken, you have to beat every fight with the same team. It also balances it out with 5 resolve, basically making this trait a +10%dmg. Lone wolf trait free#Unless huge, drunkard only reduces melee attack which the lone wolf has three stars and plenty of. Synonyms for LONE WOLF: bohemian, boho, counterculturist, deviant, enfant terrible, free spirit, heretic, iconoclast Antonyms for LONE WOLF: conformer. I love drunkard because melee defense is the strongest attribute in the game that you just cannot get enough of. On weaker bros where you have to recover after 2 rounds its much weaker. Example: If you fight for 5 rounds without recover, iron lungs is an extra +15 fat. The more rounds you can fight without recover, the better iron long does get. With a lonewolf you usually end with around 170-180. Iron lungs gets better the more fatigue you have. Iron lungs and drunkard are both very good lategame traits: Sire, +x of stat y can be nice at the start, at lvl 20+ it's just not worth the trait slot imo. Both offer things that you can't get otherwise in the long run. The wolf also passed along to dogs its most indispensable qualities: devotion to its pack, sociability, and a capacity for learning, communication, and expression.Iron lungs and drunkard imo. We transformed the wolf’s skill at harassing and maneuvering big grazing animals into a herding instinct, helping us move our livestock from place to place. We put the wolf’s superior sense of smell and knack for locating prey to use as trackers and retrievers on our own hunts. We capitalized on the wolf’s territorialism to create a dog that steadfastly guarded our flocks and property. The traits that wolves passed on to dogs served us well as we became shepherds and farmers. Just like elephants, gorillas and whales, they educate their young, take care of their injured and live in family groups. You can see a lot of your dog in a wolf and a lot of wolf in your dog. The DNA of any dog is almost exactly the same as that of a wolf. Genetics leaves little doubt that domestic dogs, our canine companions, are descended from wolves. When we look at wolves, we are looking at tribes-extended families, each with its own homeland, history, knowledge, and indeed, culture. Additionally, you dont get double action points and health, so your party overall has less HP and actions. Creating two lone wolf characters adds difficulty to the game because enemies will focus attacks more. When they lose a pack mate, there is evidence that they suffer and mourn that loss. Regular character tend to struggle when going for a hybrid build because they spread themselves too thin. Wolves play together into old age, they raise their young as a group, and they care for injured companions. A family group can persevere for several generations, even decades, carrying knowledge and information through the years, from generation to generation. Wolves and other highly social animals have and pass on what can be best described as culture. Pack structure enables communication, the education of the young and the transfer of knowledge across generations. They form friendships and nurture their own sick and injured. Wolves care for each other as individuals. Living in a pack not only facilitates the raising and feeding of pups, coordinated and collaborative hunting, and the defense of territory, it also allows for the formation of many unique emotional bonds between pack members, the foundation for cooperative living. Although an omega may hold that position for many years, it is not unheard of for the pack to pick a new omega and let the other retire. Both mid- and low-ranking positions are somewhat fluid. In small packs, human-caused mortality of the alpha female and/or the alpha male can cause the entire pack to dissolve.Īfter the alphas, wolves second in command are called the betas, followed by mid-ranking wolves, and finally the omegas. The loss of a parent can have a devastating impact on social group cohesion. They, especially the alpha female (the mother of the pack), are the glue keeping the pack together. Typically, there is only one breeding pair in a pack. The job of maintaining order and cohesion falls largely to the alphas, also known as the breeding pair. There are old wolves that need to be cared for, pups that need to be educated, and young adults that are beginning to assert themselves – all altering the dynamics of the pack. A wolf pack is an exceedingly complex social unit-an extended family of parents, offspring, siblings, aunts, uncles, and sometimes dispersers from other packs. Annabel sees the cliff that Mama had originally jumped from remembering the warning that ghosts are twisted souls doomed to repeat their mistakes, she realizes Mama's intentions to re-enact her fall and jump off the cliff with the children. They arrive at the cabin, finding Jean dead on the floor but neither Lily nor Victoria. Annabel wakes up, grabs the baby's corpse, and drives to the lake, finding Lucas along the way, who has left the hospital and gone to the site his brother told him about in his coma dream. Mama uses this body to take the children to the cabin. Annabel is knocked out, but at the last moment Jean breaks into the house and has her body possessed by Mama. At the same time, Mama becomes furious and attacks the children and Annabel Victoria tries hard to defend Annabel and pleads for Mama to stop, but Lily is still clearly loyal to Mama. At this point, she learns of the aspects of the case which the doctor had found out about and finds the baby's corpse, as well as Mama's past life. Dreyfuss's office after another supernatural night at the house but finds out he is missing she steals his objects related to the case. Lucas has a dream induced by his dead brother while in a coma, asking him to save his children and pointing him to a location in the woods.Īnnabel visits Dr. The girls' maternal great-aunt Jean Podolski visits one day, but believes Annabel is abusing the children (due to bruises Lily has from her animalistic tendencies) and begins to spy on the house for proof. Dreyfuss comes to believe that Mama is located in the cabin in the woods and goes to investigate one night but is killed by Mama there. In the course of the investigation, he obtains custody of the corpse of Mama's baby. Dreyfuss begins to believe the stories of Mama, first because Victoria is able to tell stories with information she shouldn't be able to know, and later because he actually sees Mama. Victoria worries for her safety, saying Mama gets very jealous. Annabel becomes aware there is something wrong and that Mama may indeed be real. Over time, Annabel becomes attached to the children, and later, Victoria begins to prefer her over Mama, but Lily still remains completely loyal to Mama. Over time, Victoria becomes more like a normal child, but Lily retains her feral nature this is attributed to the fact that Victoria was older and thus had socially developed before their abandonment in the woods. This forces Annabel, who feels very uncomfortable with the children, to take care of them. Dreyfuss originally believed "Mama" to be an alter-ego of Victoria.Įarly in the movie, Lucas is pushed down the stairs by Mama and ends up in a coma. Dreyfuss she won't come where she can be seen, as Dr. She plays with the children but hides from sight of anyone else Victoria always takes off her glasses when she looks at Mama and tells Dr. Mama's presence is generally signaled by jet-black moths and electrical problems. She searched the woods for centuries trying to find her baby, until she stumbled upon Victoria and Lily about to be killed in the cabin by their deranged father, to which she broke their father's neck and began taking care of the children as substitutes for her deceased baby. This causes her to take a form of physically being twisted, with body parts askew and many joints bending the wrong way. Mama becomes a ghost, twisted by the sad emotions of not knowing where her child is (she is unaware of why the baby was not in the lake with her). While an unconscious Mama fell into the lake and drowned, the baby (killed by the impact) was stuck to the tree trunk and was recovered by the pursuers. Chased by the authorities, she ends up at the edge of a cliff overlooking a lake seeing no other path, she jumps and hits a tree branch on the way down. She breaks out of the asylum and stabs a nun who had taken Mama's baby (also named Lily) into her care then steals the baby back. Her appearance and simple actions imply she had Down syndrome, though this is never officially stated. Edith Brennan was a former patient at St.
